Walk to School Day!

Today was walk to school day.

Some of us were dropped off at Rod's Field, some of us walked there with the Day Care, some of us walked or drove there with our families, and some of us joined the walk when the group was near our homes. The teachers walked there to meet us too!

The Safety Patrols were stationed at the corners to help keep us safe.  Our school resource officer, Constable Sue even came to help make sure we were safe.

The most exciting thing was that police cars with their flashing lights stopped all traffic from turning on the roads where we were walking!!!!

We met at the back of the school and sang "Oh Canada"!  We thanked the Constable for coming out by clapping!

Walking to school was fun!

Terry Fox Run

We honoured Terry Fox today by running for a cure just like he did. We brought two dollars to donate to find a cure for cancer, and we ran for a whole period in the school field. It was lots of fun and hard work too. We were very tired at the end. Here are some pictures!

Our school raised over $300.00 on our Terry Fox run!

Dot Day

Did you know there is an International Dot Day? We were surprised!
We read a book called 'the Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds.

We wore clothes with dots on them like this!

We did lots of dot math. We used ten frames to see numbers. We used dice to see the patterns of the dots for numbers to six. We used dot plates to see how fast we could make and solve number sentences. We solved some complicated dot-to-dots too!

We listened to a story and watched a video that was made from the story "You Are Special" by Max Lucado. Guess what?  There are dots in it!

Check out these links to hear the story and watch the video!

We read this poem that moved in the shape of a dot!

Finally we did an art project about dots and circles! Just look at our work!

We had a lot of fun on dot day!!!

Back to School

We were very happy to get back to school to see all our friends and meet new ones.

We used math tools to show about the patterns we knew!

We learned about new patterns too!

What is a pattern?

"Something that repeats over and over at least three times." said Jessica.

"Yes the core repeats three times."said Matthew.

"There are different kinds of patterns", said Jack.

Oliver said, "It can repeat colours, shapes, or numbers."

Kieran says, "It can grow in numbers or it can shrink in numbers."

"It can be named ABC as a short cut if your pattern was purple, green, red."said Kyran.

We know a lot about patterns!

The strongest structure...

We did a shape test. We tryed the triangular prism. It held 14 marbles, then we  tryed the rectangular prism it held all of them.  The cylinder  too held all of them. So next we tried using books. The rectangular prism held 18 books. The triangular prism held only 9. The cylander held 33 before it crumbled. So the cylander is the strongest shape!   Quinton & Jayden

First Class Post

Hello! We are very excited to share our news on this blog. We have been learning about India. India has a very large population. They throw out far less trash than we do. Their weather is much warmer than ours and they only get snow in the Himalayan mountains.  We played the "Paper Bag Game" to see what being poor is like.

Yesterday we were looking for rectangular prisms, cylinders, and triangular prisms. Today we will test these shapes to see which one is the strongest! Stay tuned for more exciting information!
